And the second thing I was doing this in nineteen ninety nine what happens in two thousand the NASDAQ crashes all high tech crashed so in two thousand it became really difficult to get money from venture capitalists for any idea. So my start up unfortunately I had the top engineers where people with a family and children. So when this crashed and we had no money they had to look for a job but that's bad luck there's nothing that we did wrong. You know, so I forgot my own case, so I think you have to be in a society where this is recognized that when you fail, the something very positive you learn. 

我是在1999年做了第二件事情。在2000年，纳斯达克崩盘了，所有的高科技几乎都失败了。因此，在那个阶段很难获得风险投资，无论你做的是什么技术，你都很难获得投资。我的创业公司中有很多优秀的工程师，他们需要养家糊口。恰逢当时高科技都失败了。这些工程师不得不换工作。这就是运气不好。因为这些工程师也没有做错什么。我认为，你需要生活在一个认同你的社会当中。当你面临失败，你要积极的看待事情，因为你能够从失败中学习。

And second it's okay, it's bad luck. So what you don't get, you don't get punished and so that that that's why society is number one. You have to be in a society that accepts you I don't think government can create this kind of society. I know china is like my home country early where if you failed on my god right the family will be ashamed of you well that's really difficult to change.

第二个建议就是失败并没有什么大不了的，只是运气不好而已。那又怎么样呢？你不会因为失败就被惩罚，所以我最看重社会因素，你需要生活在一个愿意接受你的社会当中。我不觉得政府能够营造这样的社会氛围。我知道，在中国和在我的祖国意大利一样，如果你失败了，家族会以你为耻，邻居会看不起你。社会氛围很难改变。

So let me tell you another thing that probably you will not ask me. Because this is not usually something that people talking about but almost related to failure is free, so much. What Silicon Valley does is free. No, Steve did not build the apple one for money he wasn't charging people money to look at it and to use it, it was for fun. 

所以和你分享另一个故事，即便你没有对此进行提问。经常有人会讨论，不付费会不会导致失败？硅谷的明显特征是免费。乔布斯他们做出Apple One不是为了赚钱，他们没有收钱让别人观赏Apple One。他们只是想要寻找乐趣。

A lot of work that is done in Silicon Valley is free. There's an open source. You know what is open source or what is open source software? It's free right free software. There's one web site GitHub. It’s the most famous website for open source. If you go now I haven't done in the last few days, there are 1.2 million people contributing open source software, a huge number are from Silicon Valley. 

在硅谷，很多资源都是免费的。你知道开源软件吗？最出名的一个开源软件网站叫GitHub，在网站上有120万人在上面共享开源软件，其中大部分的贡献者都来自硅谷。

So why they do that for free when they do it because they like it. They don't know if they will make money out of it. They do it because they like it and they want other people to know. “hey look how good I am. I’ve done this.” Okay, it's like social media but social media for high tech projects.

他们为什么要免费做这些事情？他们只是出于热爱才不求回报共享开源软件的。他们不知道自己能不能赚钱，只是单纯出于热爱才制作这些软件的，然后告诉其他人“看啊！这就是我做的软件。”这和社交媒体是一个道理。
