Future Digital Healthcare Infrastructure Can Start with Two "Downstream" Approaches, Says CIO of Hong Kong Hospital Authority
TMTPOST – At the 2024 ITValue Summit, co-hosted by TMTPost and ITValue, Cai Yang, CIO of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, outlined a strategic approach to building the future digital healthcare infrastructure. The summit, which runs for three days under the theme "Ready For AI," features discussions on advancing technology in healthcare.
Cai proposed that developing a robust digital healthcare foundation should focus on two "downstream" strategies. Establish a nationwide health data platform that integrates electronic medical records from approximately 36,000 hospitals and 70,000 health centers in real-time. This approach can draw from China's unified data platform in civil aviation, known as "China TravelSky."
Develop a city-wide internet general hospital platform to streamline and integrate services and processes across major hospitals and health centers. This can be modeled on how Ctrip has consolidated domestic and international travel agencies, he added.
Cai highlighted that the Hong Kong SAR government's MedConnect+ platform exemplifies the value of integrating demand-side healthcare data and supply-side service processes.
