The Primary Difference of AI Development between China and US Lies in High-performance GPU Chips
TMTPOST– Zhou Hongyi, founder of 360 Group, and Dr. Duran, founding president of the Guangdong Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, recently shared their perspectives on the AI industry bubble.
Du Lan highlighted that as people realize AI is not a panacea, the industry is likely to experience a downturn, akin to the collapse of technology bubbles, though the value behind the bubble remains crucial.
Zhou Hongyi commented that a lack of bubble can stifle investment and talent influx into an industry. For instance, the "Battle of Hundreds of Models" in China helped address the issue of developing large models from scratch. Regarding the AI gap between China and the US, Zhou noted that while the primary difference lies in high-performance GPU chips, the gap in model algorithms is relatively small. "Last year, I estimated the gap at about two years, but now it might be down to around six months," Zhou said.
